Since 2011, 22 colleges have participated in curriculum competency alignment for 61 awards including more than 900 courses. Because of the positive response from Texas community college faculty and staff, The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has added Competency Analysis as a method for curriculum validation in the 2014 edition of Guidelines for Instructional Programs in Workforce Education (GIPWE).


Texas college instructional leaders are invited to find out more about this program and how your programs might be analyzed next year at no cost to you or your institution. Marc Anderberg

Marc is the Senior Analyst involved in Curriculum Competency Analysis on a daily basis for the Texas State Technical College Center for Employability Outcomes.  He is uniquely qualified for that work with more than twenty-five years in labor market and workforce planning.  Marc has been a local workforce board planning director and a foundation President.  In a long career at the Texas Workforce Commission, he served as State Labor Market Analyst, Director of Automated Student and Adult Learner Follow-Up, and Director of Applied Research.  Marc has authored numerous publications in labor market analysis and economic development.  As Chief Analyst, he directs skills-based research to provide data for decision support in curriculum alignment, job search & placement, career exploration & training referral, and planning workforce preparation program integration with economic development and growth.

Michael Bettersworth

Michael has over a decade of experience working specifically at the intersections of education and the workplace. Today his work focuses on improving student employability outcomes after college. He is a principle in the design and implementation of the nation's first fully outcomes based funding model. Michael has pioneered the use of real-time labor market data and analytics to align curriculum with market demand. He has formed close partnerships with the Texas Workforce Commission to implement a common skills language for more efficient curriculum alignment. Michael currently serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Technology Advancement at Texas State Technical College.


Ron Sanders

Ron is a veteran of the IT industry, the Texas Workforce Commission,  and has sixteen years of higher education experience in every aspect of instruction from instructor to Chief Academic Officer.  That experience helps him to understand that pressures that college leaders face to align programs within shrinking budgets and with higher expectations from regulators and accreditors. Ron is a passionate advocate for Workforce Education, having become a believer through personal experience after being laid off. As Vice President for Student Learning at TSTC Waco, he became interested in the Common Skills Language project early on because of its potential to bring education and employers together and improve communication with advisory boards. Ron is currently serving the Texas State Technical College System as Senior Business Analyst and Project Manager for the Perkins Leadership Grant for Curriculum Competency Analysis.
